What is Reiki?
Reiki (Ray-Key) means “The Miraculous Energy.”

This Miraculous Energy activates one’s natural healing ability, allowing the body and mind to enter a positive state of health. This Japanese healing modality was developed in 1922.

Everyone can connect with this miraculous energy descending from the Universe. Reiki practitioners can direct this healing energy into recipients by simply placing their hands on recipients’ bodies. In this way, Reiki therapy is a natural practice that uses miraculous healing energy.

What is Reiki used to treat?

Reiki, known for its role in stress reduction and relaxation, is also a powerful healing facilitator. It assists the body in creating an environment conducive to healing, offering hope and wellness to many. Reiki is a valuable complement to traditional medicine. Today, Reiki is practiced in hospitals, healthcare centers, spas, wellness centers, hospice settings, massage therapy offices, and Reiki therapists in private practice.

What is a Reiki practitioner?
In the world of Reiki, a professional Reiki practitioner must complete a series of certified courses. Following the Reiki Level 1 course, apprentices continue through the Reiki Level 2 course, practicum, and then onto the Assistant Teacher courses. Some Reiki practitioners continue their education to become Reiki Master Teachers to empower others by teaching the traditional healing arts of Reiki.
Will I be lying down on a treatment table or sitting?
Reiki sessions are designed with your comfort in mind. The recipient comfortably rests on a treatment table, massage chair, or recliner, and your Reiki practitioner will ensure the recipient is at ease. If you have any mobility or pain issues, rest assured that your practitioner will make the necessary adjustments to ensure your comfort throughout the session.

What will I feel during the Reiki session?
Most clients feel a sense of relaxation and peace. The mind may feel calm, and your physical body should feel relaxed. You may feel heat or warmth where practitioners place their palms, which is a significant indication of the Reiki energy flowing through your practitioner to your body.

Some people see colors, mystic shapes, and actual images and even experience a sensation of floating. You may cough, or your belly may gurgle as if you were hungry; this is all from the Reiki energy evidently working on you.
It's important to remember that your experience is unique and valid. Depending on what your body holds, you may find yourself experiencing an emotional release or crying. These reactions are all part of the process and are perfectly normal. Rest assured, you are safe during your session, and everyone's journey with Reiki is different.

Reiki is so relaxing that clients sometimes drift off to sleep during the session. Don't worry; you will still receive all of the session's benefits, whether you are sleeping, awake, or even feeling nothing.

Is my first session the longest?
At your first session, you should arrive 10-15 minutes early so the Reiki practitioner can plan the session, discuss your goals, complete paperwork, etc. The length of the initial treatment depends on the recipients’ symptoms, but it is usually 60 minutes long.

Is there talking during the session?

Usually, a Reiki session is done without talking, and the practitioner may play soft ambient music in the background to aid in your relaxation. Speak up anytime to communicate something to your practitioner during the session, such as if you are cold or too warm, if something feels uncomfortable, if you have an issue, etc. Your Reiki practitioner wants to make your session the best possible experience.
What outfit is best suitable for a Reiki session?
Unlike a massage therapy session, you will be fully clothed. Please wear loose-fitting, comfortable clothing; jeans are not recommended. As for practitioners, it’s easier to work on you without earrings, necklaces, wrist watch, or any dangles. Also, please minimize the face makeups and no fragrance.

Are there any medical conditions where I should not receive Reiki?
Reiki is a wonderful complement to a health and wellness plan. It supports and facilitates the work of your primary care providers. Reiki may provide numerous benefits for medical issues, pregnancy, and life stages
Can I take too much Reiki?

No, not at all. Reiki is beneficial and works with your body’s energy. Thus, your energetic body controls how much Reiki wants and needs during the session and utilizes it accordingly. Like breathing, you will comfortably take in as much as you need to support yourself.
Will the Reiki practitioner’s hands touch me in any way?
The practitioner performs Reiki healing sessions with light, and gentle pressure by hands. Or the practitioner’s hands may be a few inches/centimeters above your body with no actual contact. There are different hand placements, avoiding all sensitive body parts. Let your practitioner know before the session which you prefer, light touch or no touch.

Is one session enough or will I need a series of sessions?
One session is a great start. You will see for yourself how Reiki makes you feel. After trying the initial
session and exploring the benefits of Reiki, most people choose to continue a series of treatments to work progressively on their wellness goals. For most clients, a monthly Reiki session is the perfect rhythm
for maintaining their wellness.

However, everyone's needs differ; some may benefit from more frequent treatments to manage their symptoms. In this case, each session builds on the last one; a cumulative therapy.
Consistency with Reiki becomes vital, and skipping sessions may hamper the progress.

After each session, we'll discuss your unique needs and goals to determine the best plan for you.

What happens after the session?
Do not expect a diagnosis, as that is not part of Reiki. Some practitioners may make common-sense suggestions for after-care, such as drinking water and following your body's needs.
Also, your practitioner  may ask you to provide feedback after the session to plan your next session. It is up to you to share or not.

Although people typically leave a Reiki session feeling refreshed, sometimes they notice feeling more tired than usual. Not to worry. It is not an adverse reaction but the body's natural healing response to recover the system's proper function. That's a positive sign that Reiki is evidently working, and the temporal symptom dissipates and clears up.  After all, people commonly report a sense of calm, mental clarity, and good sleep.

After I leave my session, should I do anything special?
After the Reiki session, as your lymphatic flow and blood circulation move fast at an optimum rate, drink plenty of water to hydrate your body and facilitate healing.  Intake of water also flushes out all waste products deposited in your system.

Avoid unnecessary social activities and rest in as quiet an environment as possible. It is beneficial to spend some quiet time after your Reiki session to journal, relax, nap, or meditate. As your body processes the Reiki healing session, you may gain insights and mental clarity.
